The National Predictive Modeling Tool Initiative (NPMTI) is an unprecedented coordination between pathologists and researchers from 26 states that addresses plant diseases before they devastate our nation’s crops and food supply.
Diseases affecting corn, cotton, and wheat result in a loss of nearly $16 billion annually for America’s farmers.
The NPMTI’s disease forecasting capabilities will mitigate the vulnerability of domestic crops by providing in-season risk assessment for diseases and mycotoxins affecting U.S. crops by allowing producers to take timely preventative measures before widespread damage and yield losses occur. These disease forecasting capabilities are provided at no cost to famers.

Request for Proposals Open!
The two-step process begins with submission of a Letter of Intent (LOI), due December 15, 2023. If the LOI is accepted, the Full Proposal is due by January 31, 2024. Documents and additional information are available here.
Save the Date – NPMTI 2024 Annual Meeting
For those interested in plant pathology and predictive modeling, this is an open invitation to join the NPMTI 2024 Annual Meeting, February 27-28 in Raleigh, NC. The meeting will feature presentations by corn, cotton and wheat researchers, plus other plant pathologists from around the country. New for 2024, the meeting will also include presentations about the Pulse Crop pilot program, which is an initiative in North Dakota and Montana that is working on predictive modeling for soil-borne pathogens in lentils, chickpeas and dry edible beans.
The meeting starts at 8 a.m. ET, Tuesday, February 27, and ends at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. Cotton Incorporated is hosting the meeting. Check back for more details as the upcoming event draws near. We hope to see you there.
